Earth Day 2019: Let’s take a pledge to safeguard our species

Happy Earth Day

On 22nd April every year, we dedicate this day to our Mother Earth as World Earth Day. Based on a theme, this day brings a motivation in the people of the world towards making a better and healthy surroundings which we live in.

Today is the day of our Mother Earth which has been shelter to exceptional diversity. This year’s theme is attributed towards protecting our species of mother Earth and is named as “Protect Our Species”.

Our PM Modi took his Twitter handle to share a beautiful message on this auspicious day.

We saw a Google Doodle on Earth Day 2019 mentioning six unique species living in the world – air, water, land.

These six inhabitants are as given below:

  • Wandering Albatross – This amazing bird Β can fly a thousand miles without flapping its wings. This seabird belongs to the family of Diomedeidae.
  • Coastal Redwood – This tree is the tallest tree with height equivalent to 75 humans and stands tall at 377 feet.
  • Paedophryne Amauensis – The world’s tiniest amphibian and is just 7.7mm in length.
  • Amazon Water Lily – Belonging to the family of Nymphaeaceae of water lilies, this is the biggest flower. This flower is the national flower of Guyana.
  • Coelacanth – This rare species of fish is 407 million years old since the dinosaur days. One kind of this species named Β West Indian Ocean Coelacanth is found close to the area of Comoro Islands situated on the eastern coastal area of Africa. The other species is the Indonesian coelacanth.
  • Deep Cave Springtail – This unique creatures live at the core of the world’s deepest cave. Residing in the hollow crust of the cave without eyes have never been a hurdle in their way of moving one place to another.

The list is ever-growing with diversification of species spread all around the mother Earth. On the occasion of Earth day today, we all should stand together to take a pledge in protection of these special inhabitants of the Earth. We all need to work continuously for the betterment of our planet Earth. This will make the planet free from invisible hazardous environmental elements thereby providing us with a safe and sound environment where all the species can lead a healthy and prosperous life.
